Celebrating 30 Years of Community Service
BDPA, formerly Black Data Processing Associates, Inc., was founded in 1975 by Earl A. Pace, Jr. and the late David Wimberly after the two met in Philadelphia to discuss their concerns about minorities in data processing fields. The Washington, D.C. Chapter was founded in 1978 by Norman Mays. It was incorporated in 1981 as a domestic not-for-profit corporation in the District of Columbia. In February of 1988, Black Data Processing Associates of Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Area (BDPA-DC) became a Section 501(c)(3) Public Charity. BDPA-DC sponsored new charters for BDPA's Baltimore Chapter and BDPA's Northern Virginia Chapters in 1987 and 2006, respectively. In 2008, BDPA chapter start-up groups (CSGs) and chapter interest groups (CIGs) are forming in neighboring counties within the Mid-Atlantic region. BDPA's Northern Delaware Chapter recently was chartered during the fourth quarter of NBDPA's fiscal year 2007.

In a global market in excess of $2 trillion where the U.S. wants to increase participation, the information and communications technology (ICT) industry demands a strong qualified workforce to meet and exceed demand. BDPA-DC's Executive Committee (EC) is a 100% all-volunteer integrated project team (IPT) coordinating business unit responsibilities, tasks, deliverables and reporting requirements for local communities through chapter standing committees, ad-hoc committees, and CIGs supporting ICT industries. Moreover, one of the Chapter's EC fiscal year 2008 goals is establishing a new Corporate Advisory Council (CAC) comprised of C-Level industry representatives from all sectors of the ICT industry (Academia, Private, and Public) in direct support of NBDPA's mission and industry trends in and surrounding our communities.
