Washington--The OSDBU Council is an informal organization of Federal small business program officials that comes together monthly to exchange and discuss information on acquisition methods, issues and strategies; small business program initiatives and processes; and small business related outreach events that permit their respective agencies to increase their utilization of small businesses as prime and subcontractors to meet their annual requirements for services and goods. The OSDBU Council is led by the Directors of the Federal OSDBUs who individually work closely with the U. S. Small Business Administration in the implementation of the Federal small business contracting programs. Each year the OSDBU Council convenes an OSDBU Directors' Procurement Conference which brings together small business owners and representatives, large corporations, and Federal small business officials from throughout the country. This year's conference was  held on Wednesday April 22, 2009 (EARTH DAY) at the Dulles Expo Center (North Hall) in Chantilly, Virginia featuring procurement opportunities, teaming, and forecasts primarily in Public Sector.

Atlanta, GAWashington, D.C. and Northern Virginia High School Computer Competition (HSCC) teams are among the nation's top five (5) this year. All teams did remarkably well during the National HSCC held in Atlanta, Georgia on August 6-8, 2008. However, only the top five (5) teams are eligible for the Dr. Jesse Bemley Scholarship awards for 2008.

Our top five teams in BDPA's 2008 National High School Computer Competition are:

  1. BDPA Southern Minnesota
This team defended the national championship that they captured last year. In fact, the young men and women from Rochester MN won the championship in 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008 and are poised for a 'three-peat' next year in Raleigh. Each member of this year's team won a $2,500 Bemley Scholarship!

  2. BDPA Washington, D.C.
For the second year in a row the young men and women from our Nation's Capital each took home the Silver Medal along with $2,000 Bemley Scholarships!

  3. BDPA Chicago
This is the only team in the past five years to beat Southern Minnesota for the championship .... Chicago won all major awards in 2006. For the second year in a row, these young students from the Windy City each are bringing home the HSCC Bronze Medal and $1,500 Bemley Scholarships.

  4. BDPA Northern Virginia
This chapter participated in the National HSCC for the first time ever. They 'came correct!' Their fourth place finish earned each member of the team a $1,000 Bemley Scholarship.

  5. BDPA Atlanta
How cool is it to be the host chapter of an annual conference and also have high school students winning $500 Bemley Scholarships? That is the experience of the team from BDPA's Host Chapter this year.

BDPA Chapter Interest Groups (CIGs) Now Forming in Maryland and Virginia

Washington, D.C. - BDPA-DC encourages expansion of technology and science programs, corporate outreach, and service delivery to underserved and emerging communities within the National Capital Region (NCR).  Chapter Interest Groups (CIGs) are designed to meet or exceed our service delivery requirements where growing technology trends and demographics ultimately will support viable and vibrant BDPA Chapters. New and current BDPA Members along with their associates simply join existing BDPA Chapters to establish a CIG which serves their respective county, city, or community. Upon National Board of Directors (NBOD) approval of a CIG's application, a new BDPA Chapter is launched.
